During the second week of August, the VIII Banana Technical Congress of Colombia was held in the city of Santa Marta, organized by the Colombian Banana Association-AUGURA and its CENIBANANO Research Center. During the 2 days of the event, more than 800 attendees including producers, executives, marketers and exhibitors enjoyed the different research works, presented by 38 academics, 8 of them invited. Topics covered included different areas, irrigation technology, nutrition, harvest, fertilization, and pest and disease management, among others.
Recently, the Colombian floriculture sector has had an important development; its exports to different markets have grown significantly, and according to Asocolflores, during 2017, sales abroad reached US $ 1,400 million; which is a record for the industry.
