As part of the renowned annual Fruit Attraction trade fair in Madrid, Spain, the presidents of Augura and Asbama, important banana associations in Colombia, participated in a panel discussion on “Shared Responsibility in the Banana Value Chain”. This discussion focused on the current challenges facing the agribusiness, including rising global supply chain costs and unstable economic and geopolitical conditions.
One of the main issues addressed was the decline in the purchase price of bananas in recent years, despite the efforts of the Colombian agribusiness to maintain quality and sustainability standards. According to Emerson Aguirre Medina, president of Augura, it is essential to make buyer countries aware of the importance of recognizing the efforts of Colombian producers, who work hard to ensure the labor, social and environmental sustainability of approximately 150,000 families in the country.
In this context, Colombia faces the challenge of maintaining its position as one of the world’s leading banana exporters, while seeking to ensure fair and dignified conditions for its producers. The articulation of “Shared Responsibility” among all actors in the chain is presented as a key strategy to support the stability and growth of the banana industry in the country.
At Centro Aceros, we recognize the importance of this sector for the Colombian economy and we are committed to provide efficient and quality solutions for the banana agro-industry with cableways that make possible a future cost reduction in the operation and transportation of crops.
